AI-powered mixing assistant (VST3 audio plugin)
I'm developing an AI-powered audio plugin that will analyze and compare a song mix against a user-selected professional reference track. The plugin identifies differences in tonal shape, frequency balance, EQ, dynamics, compression, and stereo imaging, then provides detailed recommendations on how to achieve a similar sound.
Plugin frequency spectrum analysis
The VST3 plugin (initially Mac only) compares the audio to the reference across different core characteristics:
- Tonal shape & frequency balance: Maps the overall spectral contour to identify build-ups or harshness
- EQ profiling: Pinpoints exact frequency adjustments needed across the spectrum
- Dynamic response & compression: Measures peak-to-RMS ratios, transient response, and dynamic range to suggest macro/micro dynamics control
- Stereo width & imaging: Analyzes side-frequency energy, phase coherence, and spatial placement
Once the analysis is complete, the plugin will provide the user with AI-guided feedback, translating the results into clear and understandable advice that explains what adjustments to make and why.
I'm also investigating the possibilities for automated chain generation for future versions.
